Flip feature of the DirecTV HD DVRs allows subscribers to toggle between two live shows. With this feature, subscribers have two options. They can either flip back to the time they had left the TV show or to real time of the show. Actually the HD DVR saves programs to the hard drive instantly and continuously. This flip feature or live buffer lets subscribers pause, rewind, fast forward or instant replay (jump back 6 seconds). Both the flip options available in the HD DVRs of DirecTV are explained below briefly.
Flip Back to the Time Subscribers left off the TV Show (Option 1):
With the help of this flip option, subscribers can flip back to the time of shows and start watching the shows. In order to set this flip option in subscribers must follow the below setup.
- Subscribers first need to tune to Show 1 and Press the Record button of the remote. Show 1 will be the first live buffer or “anchor” program.
- Subscribers must then tune to Show 2 and press Pause button located on the remote. Show 2 will be the second live buffer.
- Subscribers must press List and then Play buttons of the remote.
If subscribers want to toggle between the two live shows or Dual Live Buffers (for instance Toggle between Game 1 and Game 2) then they must first press the Pause and then the Prev button of the remote.
On the other hand, if subscribers are completed watching the shows then they have the option of keeping the anchor/primary program or deleting it. To delete the anchor program, subscribers must first press List and then Select buttons of the remote.
With the first option of flip feature (explained above) of HD DVRs of DirecTV, the Show 1 will be buffered as a recording in its entirety and Show 2 will have a 90 minute buffer. In case of this option to toggle from Show 1 to Show 2, subscribers just need to press the Prev button of the remote. By using this option of flip feature subscribers omit the chance of accidentally losing the Show 1 as the show gets recorded. Subscribers can pause Show 2 with this flip option. Also while watching Show 1 and Show 2, subscribers can also keep the Show 1 and tune to Show 3 (new program) and thereby toggle between these two. For this, subscribers need press Pause, List and Play buttons simultaneously of the remote. With this flip option, subscribers can keep their anchor show (i.e. Show1) and surf other channels. To go back to the anchor show, subscribers need to press List and Play buttons of remote simultaneously.
Flip Back to the TV Show in Real Time (Option 2):
With the help of this Flip option of HD DVRs of DirecTV, subscribers can start watching the TV shows in its real time. To set up this flip option, subscribers need to follow the setup explained below.
- Subscribers first need to tune to Show 1 and then press the record button of the remote. The show 1 will be the first live buffer or “anchor” program.
- Subscribers then need to tune to Show 2 and then press the record button of the remotes. In this flip option of HD DVRs of DirecTV; Show 2 will be the second anchor program. Second anchor program is not present in the other flip option (explained earlier).
- At last to flip back to the TV show in real time, subscribers need to press Prev button of the remote.
By using the second option of flip feature of HD DVRs of DirecTV, subscribers can reap a number of advantages. The main purpose of using the second option is not to hold the place where subscribers had left off the TV show. But instead, subscribers have a buffer that they can rewind. The second flip option saves both TV shows. When subscribers are done watching both TV shows and want to delete them then subscribers need to press the List, and Select buttons of remote simultaneously. The second flip option of HD DVRs uses a single key (Prev button of remote) to toggle.
