DirecTV, apart from amazing programs provides subscribers with series of DVRs with advanced technologies. With the DVRs, subscribers can schedule recordings of programs that they cannot watch on time for various reasons. Nowadays, with DirecTV’s advanced DVRs and advanced technology, subscribers can even schedule their recordings remotely. The functionalities behind such DVRs are not easy to understand. And obviously, subscribers cannot understand about them in one stretch. They will naturally have queries about various DVR functions, features and usage as they use it more and more. This article tries to configure and sort out some such queries that subscribers usually have regarding DVR recordings.

Record programs and Pay-per-View:

Subscribers should primarily have a DVR receiver to record TV shows. They can set recordings of programs by navigating the program guide or using the search field. When they find a title, click the “Record” button below it and follow the instructions on the following windows. For pay-per-view programs, subscribers can either order and record or record and rent later. Ordering a per-per-view initiates a payment process. But the “rent now and record later” option allows subscribers to record the pay-per-view and pay before watching that. The recorded content will be in the DVR as long as subscribers want. But pay-per-view movie will remain in a DVR for 24 hours after subscribers had begun to watch it.

Set Recordings via DVR Scheduler:

Subscribers can set recordings of programs using DVR Scheduler service via mobile phone, PCs etc. DVR Scheduler works with DirecTV Plus DVR receivers (model R15 or above) and DirecTV Plus HD receiver (model HR20 and above). To set up DVR Scheduler, subscribers should do the followings.

  • Create a DirecTV account on directv.com to view DirecTV program guide on mobiles phones and PCs.
  • Using the online account, sign in and browse the online program guide on PCs or go to m.directv.com on mobile phones.
  • Browse the titles and select the show to record.
  • Click the Record option and the request will be sent.

To send a record request on computers from directv.com, subscribers will require an internet browser, an internet connection and a directv.com user name and a password. To send a record request on mobile phones, subscribers will need a compatible mobile phone, an internet browser, a mobile phone data plan and a directv.com username and password. Select models of mobile phone of select brands are  compatible to schedule a DVR recording. Select iPhone, iPod Touch, Blackberry, Adroid, Palm etc. mobiles phones can be used to set DVR  recordings. The free iPhone application also enable subscribers to manage DVR recordings remotely via compatible mobile phones.

Prioritize DVR Recordings:

Subscribers can prioritize their DVR recordings when programs are scheduled at the same time. They can handle such conflict management by indicating preference of one program over the other. The preferred program will get recorded. Find below the priorities that subscribers can set for their recordings.

  • Record If Possible: This specifies a general recording status. The DVR will record this recording if there is a tuner available and there are no already previously set recording conflicts. Also therehas to be enough recording space on the DVR to record this recording.
  • Definitely Record This: This signifies high priority status and the TV show needs to be recorded for sure. The DVR will record such
    selection even if there are existing conflicts, no tuner available and no space on the DVR.

Sometime subscribers want to remotely record a show that has started airing and there are two recordings that are in progress at that same. In such situation subscribers having DirecTV Plus DVR should select “Definitely Record”option. This will direct the DVR to record the program requested remotely. The recording of other two programs will be stopped. But for subscribers with DirecTV Plus HD DVR, it is not possible to place a new record request when recording of two programs are already going on.

Program Not Recorded:

When subscribers had sent a record request for a particular show but the DVR is not recording it then they should observe the following points.

  • Try to find the request in subscriber’s DVR Playlist. If it is not found there then check the To Do list of the DVR.
  • Check The History List available in the same menu area as the To Do list.
  • Check listings of other DVRs present in home. The record request might had been sent to other DVRs.
  • Confirm that the DVR access card number that the request had been sent to matches the DVR that is thought.
  • Reset the DVR receiver.

Number of Recordings at The Same Time:

DirecTV DVRs can be set to record two programs scheduled at the same time. Not only this subscribers can watch two separate programs on two TVs at this time.

Record HD 3D Content:

DirecTV’s HD DVRs can record 3D content. However, the HD DVR should be connected to a compatible HD TV to watch the 3D content.

By scheduling DVR recordings, subscribers can watch their favorite shows, pay-per-views, live events without miss. Subscribers can schedule recordings even remotely. The ability to record favorite program to watch them in convenient time is a blessing for subscribers.
Not all subscribers can manage watching programs on time.
