DirecTV has added many features in their Satellite TV service in order to enhance the TV viewing experience of their subscribers. One of the best features among them is Closed Captioning. This article explains the subscribers about the Closed Captioning and also gives information to troubleshoot problems on Closed Captioning.
Closed Caption and its uses
Closed Captioning in DirecTV provides texts for the dialog of TV programs. The texts are displayed at the bottom of the TV screen. It may be in the same language of TV program’s dialog or in a translated language(foreign language) of the TV program’s dialog. This feature is very much helpful for those subscribers who are physically challenged (ie deaf) as well as for subscribers who cannot follow the dialog of the TV programs.
Especially, this feature helps subscribers at the time of watching their favorite movie in a foreign language or in a language which is not known to them. As they cannot follow the dialog of their favorite movie, Closed Captioning feature helps them by providing the text of the dialog in their own language. The texts get displayed at the bottom of their TV screen while they are watching their favorite movie.
Guide for troubleshooting the problems on Closed Captioning
DirecTV links with several TV channel networks for providing TV programs to their subscribers. While delivering TV programs, DirecTV will not create or modify the Closed Captioning data. DirecTV receives the Closed Captioning data from different TV channel networks which they deliver to their subscribers.
Possible causes for the problems with Closed Captioning
1. Often, problems on Closed Captioning occurs from providers of TV channel networks. The local television broadcasting stations of TV channel networks may have some technical problems to create Closed Captioning at the time of delivering live programming events, such as local news, sporting events, etc.
2. In some cases, TV channel networks sometime have errors on Closed Captioning. If TV channel networks deliver such Closed Captioning along with programs to local television broadcasting stations which would further deliver them to the DirecTV, then DirecTV’s subscribers are bound to receive the Closed Captioning with all errors.
3. In some cases, good Closed caption information are found to be missing or garbled. This may happen either due to defective equipments or incorrect local settings.
